After 60 years the CIA admits its role in the 1953 coup against Mussdegh

This coup changed the political destiny of Iran, the Middle East and beyond to the present day.  After 60 years, the CIA admitted its role in overthrowing the democratic government of Mohammad Muddedegh, replacing it with 25 years of brutal dictatorship of the Shah which eventually led to the 1979 Revolution. The irony is that after the June 1981 coup against the Musseghite president, Abohhassan Banisadr, the clergy and groups which supported the 1953 coup took control of the state, a domination which continues to the present day.

The Monarchist and neo-conservative intellectuals like Abbas Milani, Mir Fetrus, Shokat, etc. in the last 25 years tried to re-write history, to absolve the monarchy and argue that Mussdegh was not overthrown by a coup but by a popular uprising. The Shah's son ridiculed those who were talking about a coup.  However, these documents with one blow evaporate the lies which were constructed over more than 25 years.

Still, we expect the release of all CIA documents.  Among the documents we are looking for evidence of the role Ayatollah Khomeini played in the coup.  During the June 1981 coup, he openly stated his support for the 1953 coup by arguing that Mussdegh had gotten a 'slap from Islam'. Later on, the memoirs of Ayatollah Montazeri and Ayatollah Haeri Yazdi, they revealed his very close connection with the two Ayatollahs who played a key role in the coup (Ayatollahs Kashani and Behbahani). The CIA documents could provide more proof.
