Just watched Argo, which is about the American hostages in Iran. It is a very well made, suspenseful and over-dramatized movie. There is only one quote from one Iranian politician at the time, in which he said: "the hostages will be released in less than 24 hours." It is a quote from Banisadr. At the time, he did not know that the plot to occupy the American Embassy was hatched in the US by Henry Kissinger, Rockefeller and Asharaf Pahlavi, The Shah's sister; this later became known as the 'October Surprise'. He also did not know that there had been a secret agreement to postpone the release of the American hostages until after America's presidential election in order to ensure that Jimmy Carter would lose and Ronald Reagan would win, made between Iran's Islamic Republican Party and Reagan's administration, including George Bush, or that Khomeini had been personally involved.
Iran, America and the world in general has paid and still paying an extremely high price for this secret deal and people like Banisadr and Robert Parry who kept working to expose this secret deal need all the support they can get.
