Where is Ukraine heading?

It is difficult to take a position in regard to the crisis in Ukraine. On the one side there is a democratically elected president who works within the authoritarian structure of the old guards. On the other side there are numerous political forces: some sections of the old guard, democratically oriented people of different varieties and neo-Nazis.  The more violent the confrontation becomes the more neo-Nazis are playing a leading role and the more country is getting divided between east and west.

What is visible is the absence of discourse of political struggle which is based on principles of independence (in taking decision at individual and national level) and freedom (to make the kind of the decision at the individual and national level). When there is such a vacuum, lines can get confused and outside powers, in pursuit of their national interests, increase their role in the struggle which easily can lead to civil war and an eventual division of the country into two.

If Ukrainians does not want follow this path (which I believe most don't) then I would suggest stepping back from violent confrontation and try developing a political discourse which is based on the principles of independence and freedom. This would make it possible for Ukrainians to become free citizens of a country which is free from being in the sphere of any foreign power.
