The newly formed National Guard in Ukraine reminds me of the
formation of the Revolutionary Guards after the 1979 Iranian Revolution. As a
result, the country ended up having two armies. Still, as the Revolutionary
Guard was preferred by the regime, most of the resources went into it. However,
it gradually became the dominant force and soon penetrated the political and
economical spheres. The result? Now Iran has a regime run by a mafia, which is
called the 'military-financial mafia'. Are
the Ukrainians going to learn from the disastrous experience of Iran? Given
that I see very little wisdom among the political elites, I doubt it.
Worse, the National Guard is already filled with neo-Nazi paramilitaries (1)
and like the last days of Madian are becoming the crack troopers of the regime,
which, once again, have already demonstrated their savagery.
Still it is not too late, as the Ukrainian civil society is
able to remove the fanatical and radical coup government which was installed by
the US, dismantle the monster which the neo-con and neo-liberal elite (with the
advice of CIA) have created and, instead of treating the Russian-speaking
people in the east and south as terrorists and sending tanks to terrorise them,
open its arms to recognize the legitimacy of their deep suspicion, form a
government of unity and assure them that their human rights and dignity will be
protected .
The Ukrainian civil society is able to do that, however, as
each day passes and violence spreads this possibility diminishes fast. The Ukrainian civil society should know that
if they don’t act, then the possibility of the Syrization of Ukraine is very
real.
Please share this with whoever you think is in contact with
Ukraine.
