Conspiracy of silence about conspiracy in Ukraine?

When this news broke out:"A leaked phone call between the EU foreign affairs chief Catherine Ashton and Estonian foreign minister Urmas Paet has revealed that the two discussed a conspiracy theory that blamed the killing of civilian protesters in the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, on the opposition rather than the ousted government."

I thought that it was going to be headline news all over the global media, from BBC to CNN, from Euro News to Sky, and in the main print media.  However, what I have seen is total silence of the media on the subject.  Why is there such silence? Why do these media not fulfill their obligation towards their viewers and readers? Is it not because they need to portray the events in Ukraine in black and white, with good guys (the new Ukrainian government) vs bad guys (the ones who oppose such a government, even if this is most Russian speakers in Ukraine or Russia)?

Whatever the reason is, I can say that this is one of the most recent and important cases when the expediency of politics sacrifices truth, where truth becomes a liability and hence needs to be cast aside and silenced.

I also watch Russian TV and can see how much they are trying to twist the truth in their favor, but I see no difference between what they are doing than what CNN, BBC, Sky, and Euro News are doing. So I suggest watching all in order to get closer to the truth of events and processes in Ukraine.

So my suggestion for breaking this conspiracy of silence is to write to these media and ask the reason for their silence. Also, as I said already, to widen the sources where you get your information about Ukraine.

In the conversation, the authenticity of which has been confirmed by the foreign ministry, and which took place on 26 February after Paet had returned from a visit to Ukraine, he says:

What was quite disturbing, the same Olga told [me] as well, all the evidence shows that people who were killed by snipers from both sides, among policeman and people from the streets [is] they were the same snipers killing people from both sides …she also showed me some photos, she said as medical doctor she can say it’s the same handwriting, they’re the same type of bullets and it’s really disturbing that now, the new coalition, they don’t want to investigate exactly what happened so that there is now stronger and stronger understanding that behind snipers it was not Yanukovych but it was somebody from the new coalition.

Ashton replies:

I think they do want to investigate. I mean I didn’t pick that up, that’s interesting. Gosh.

The Estonian foreign ministry said in a statement:

Foreign minister Paet was giving an overview of what he had heard the previous day in Kiev and expressed concern over the situation on the ground. We reject the claim that Paet was giving an assessment of the opposition’s involvement in the violence.

A spokeswoman for Ashton’s office said:

We can’t comment on leaks but our position on violence is very clear - that it should be investigated
